Historical places
Murcia
Murcia has been founded in 831, an ancient city of Arab origin. Several important archeologic findings can be visited (eg remains of a palace).There are also remains of monuments from the Moorish wall in different parts of the old quarter in Murcia. M
any of the beautiful old buildings are still in a very good condition. The Cathedral de Santa Maria, the Castle of Monteagudo and the Puente de los Peligros are certainly worth visiting. Murcia is the 9th largest city of Spain and has 2 universities (Historic campus La Merced in the centre). Pedestrian streets and a lot of terraces allows you to taste the typical Spanish tapas and enjoy the real Spain.
Cartagena
Cartagena is an old and important harbourcity in the Murcia Region. The entrance to the center of the town is dominated by the town hall, a jewel of modern architecture dating from the early 20th century. You can visit an old cathedral located on the Camino del Parque Torres. This is the oldest place of worship in Cartagena (13th century) and is built on the ruins of a Roman theater discovered in 1987. The theater dates from the first century AD and together with the theater in Merida, this is the most important in Spain.
Elche
Elche, the only palmtree forest and parc in Europe. Created by the Moors. Nice for walking and taking a coffee in a typical Spanish cafe.
Torrevieja
Sea salt is produced in the region in big salt lakes. Beautiful beaches are surrounding the area of Torrevieja
